Hi everyone!
Another week, another blog – this one coming to you from the award winning social media team at The Briars Dental Centre(!) We were lucky enough to scoop a local award for ‘The Best Use of Social Media’ last Friday night, which is a huge boost for the whole team – nice to know we’re spreading the good dental word in all the right places!
We’ve now descended into that funny time of year, where life goes from a fairly normal pace to hectic. For many, there are lots of social events around Halloween, and Bonfire Night, which then make way for the Christmas countdown (I’m allowed to say it – you can’t ignore it anymore, the Christmas adverts started it, not me)! The shops go bananas, flogging the advent calendars, the stocking fillers, and the bargain buckets of chocolate for the neighbours you talk to once a year. As well as constantly remind you of your time limitations – only 49 days until Christmas, 7 shopping weekends until Christmas, 1 more payday before Christmas…WE KNOW, thanks.
We have a similar countdown in dentistry, but it’s a slightly stricter time limitation. We get to a point in December where our dental laboratories start to shut down for the Christmas period – and it always catches us out – no matter how early we get the calendars through. The turn-around for most of our dental laboratories with veneer, crown, and bridge work is about 2 weeks, so from the last official working day, we know that we need to be doing our preparation appointment on the 7th of December (in order to maintain a happy relationship with our dental technicians). That date is only a month away – so for us, time is ticking on! We obviously don’t have the same time limitations for work that doesn’t involve the dental lab – but it’s important, if you are considering having dental work carried out with the intention of having your smile ready for Christmas, that you book in sooner rather than later to ensure we can get everything done for you in plenty of time.
We went on a visit yesterday to our lovely dental technicians over in Hungerford, to see their set up, and learn how our new digital iTero scans are processed. The digital age is rapidly taking over in dentistry, and it’s really interesting to learn how it affects our technicians and how they do their job. Ben and James do an unbelievable job with their restorations – their attention to detail is incredible, what they can do with a series of impressions, or a couple of scans is like art. The knowledge and passion that goes into making every restoration is evident in the beautiful crowns we are able to fit in surgery. If you want to know more about how your crowns or bridges are made – ask your dentist, they’re usually very happy to chat to you about how your work is created!
Have a lovely rest of the week – enjoy the last of the bonfire parties, and firework displays!
Amy x
