You deserve the very best dentures, so how do you get them? There are different options for tooth replacement, but it’s not a case of ‘one size fits all’ – and many patients find themselves with dentures as the best option for them. When it comes to replacing missing teeth, having well-fitting, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing dentures can significantly enhance your quality of life.
While many dental practices offer dentures, opting for specialist skills, such as those of a Prosthodontist, can provide you with distinct advantages that ensure the best possible outcome for your oral health and overall well-being.
Specialists in denture creation possess advanced training and expertise, allowing them to tailor your dentures to meet your unique needs. From meticulous measurements to high-quality materials, their attention to detail can result in a more natural look and feel. Specialists understand the complexities of your oral anatomy and can address any specific concerns, whether you’re needing full or partial dentures.
In this article, we’ll explore the benefits of entrusting your denture needs to a specialist. We’ll explore how their skills and knowledge can lead to improved comfort, function, and confidence in your smile – and why you deserve the very best.
We have recently welcomed Supriti Paraskar to The Briars Dental Team. Supriti’s vast wealth of knowledge is hugely beneficial to both our referred patients, and to our own general patients. One of Supriti’s special interests within her specialism is making dentures for all forms of oral anatomy.
We spoke to Supriti about the process she goes through to create dentures, and asked her to explain a little more about the dentures she creates versus those made by a general dentist.
Supriti starts with the hard truth – “Dentures are never ideal, as they are not natural teeth and do not bear the same resemblance to having individual teeth embedded in the bone. However, despite their shortcomings, I have had a very successful career making well fitting dentures customised to my individual patient’s needs.”
“To create a denture takes 4-5 appointments, with two initial appointments for recording impressions. If adjustments or remakes of certain elements are needed, we may increase these appointments. After the initial impression appointments, we conduct a bite registration and a trial appointment to visualise what the final dentures may look like. We take your own characteristics into consideration when creating dentures. Some people are keen on the ‘Hollywood’ smile – bright teeth, ‘perfect’ positioning and sizing. For others, they would want to replicate their original teeth – possibly a darker colour, maybe slightly ‘worn’ edges. Part of the appointment process is to ensure you are happy with the aesthetics.”
“Denture making has multiple technical aspects, which involves significant time and planning. It’s very much not one size fits all – but achieving the right fit takes time, good quality materials – and a dentist equipped with experience and skill.”
Dentures are not an ideal set of natural teeth – they need the support of their user for good functionality – but Supriti hopes that what she does here will hopefully help make the journey a little easier for her patients. You all deserve the very best.
She would encourage any patient struggling with their old dentures to get in touch and have a consultation – it could be life changing.
